Verdrietig nieuws vandaag: Na een lange strijd om zijn gezondheid is Nelson ‘DJ Official’ Chu gisteravond, op 39-jarige leeftijd overleden i.v.m. complicaties bij een longtransplantatie. De Grammy award-winnende producer was DJ voor Lecrae, tot hij in 2014 stopte, door problemen met zijn gezondheid.
In 2010 liet ‘Fish’ weten een zeldzame vorm van beenmergkanker bij zijn nieren te hebben. Ook had hij last van emfyseem, waardoor hij tot nog maar 13 procent van zijn longfunctie kon gebruiken. Op 30 juli onderging DJ Official een dubbele longtransplantatie, waarna hij in kritieke toestand verkeerde. Hij overleed op 14 augustus 2016. Zijn laatste tweets zijn zowel ontroerend, als hoopgevend en bemoedigend.

On July 30, Official had double lung transplant surgery, which left him in critical condition. The Bronx native was a pioneer in the Christian hip-hop movement, and his 2009 album Entermission was well-received by both fans and critics alike.
Lecrae took to Twitter on Sunday (Aug. 14) to pay tribute to his friend and collaborator. He wrote, “I know you deejaying on the other side. See you soon.” He continued, typing, “We talked everyday for the last 4 years. The squad won’t be the same. I know you’re glad to be with Jesus.”
